From the backyard barbecue to a spontaneous weekend getaway to hitting the hiking trails, summer is the season to do it all. Whatever summertime activities you’re planning, you’ll need something to wear. To get the most out of the season, here are some tips to help you create the perfect summer fun wardrobe.
Denim Shorts for any Casual Occasion
Nothing says “summer” like denim shorts. They’re an essential item for any summer wardrobe because you can throw them on, style them, and be out the door. There are a lot of options – high waist, low-rise, distressed fabric, varying leg lengths (skimpy, mid-thigh, at-the-knee), and frayed hems, just to name a few. Choose ones that are stretchy, comfortable and flatter your body. They should also be appropriate for the occasion – longer leg lengths give you more coverage when biking, hiking or kicking a ball around.
A stylish variation on the denim shorts theme is the denim romper. While still casual and relaxed, a romper has a dressier feel. It’s also a convenient way to get ready in a hurry: you don’t have to spend time matching a top to the bottoms. Because they tend to be looser than denim shorts, a denim romper is flattering to all body types.
Summer Dresses to Live in all Season
Your busy summer social calendar is sure to need a summer dress or two or three! If you like shorter hemlines, great, but have a couple of knee or mid-length dresses for other occasions. A summer dress should make you feel free, light, and beautiful.
If you have a pear-shaped body, choose a sleeveless dress that is gathered or pulled in at the waist and has a flared or balloon skirt.
For an apple-shaped body type, choose looser styles that showcase the arms and legs, leading the eye away from mid-torso – select a short hem for extra flirt appeal.
When you have a straight figure, create the illusion of curves with form-fitting silhouettes that have patterns or ones that use color blocking.
An hour glass figure looks best in dresses with defined waistlines. For maximum effect, select solids or prints with a fabric, leather or tie belt.
Versatile Summer Tops
Tees are a summertime must. Have a variety on hand that includes patterns, solids, and prints with fun, favorite sayings. Tunic tops are great for summer. They can be worn in a number of different ways. A tunic top can be buttoned, tucked in, or and used as a beach cover up.
A summer wardrobe wouldn’t be complete without a swimsuit. But I don’t swim! Swimwear of any kind is ideal for other activities such as tanning, hanging out with friends by the pool, going to the beach with a deck chair and a good book. There are a lot of swimwear options – one piece (full coverage), bikini (least), or two-piece (medium). Select a bathing suit you really love – it should make you feel confident and beautiful.
More Mileage with Summer Shoes
Shoes pull an outfit together. Wear heeled, open-toed sandals with pretty much anything for instant glamour. For ultimate comfort, pair a dress with flat sandals or sneakers.
